Tripod Homepage Mover FAQ

When I mirror my homepage on Tripod, will my old site be deleted?
No. The Mover simple copies all your pages onto Tripod — your old site will remain intact. Of course, we're pretty sure that after a few weeks with Tripod, you'll never want to go back!

Will this process overwrite files I currently have in my Tripod directory?
Yes. If there is an index.html on your other homepage, this will replace an index.html in your Tripod directory. If you have a site on Tripod already, be sure to name your files carefully so you don't lose anything.

Does Tripod allow sub-directories? How many levels?
Tripod allows one level of sub-directories. If you have more than one level on your current site, we will rename your directories as follows: (We will also fix all relative links so that nothing on your site will be broken.)

becomes
/images__buttons/smiley.gif
Get it? (That's a double underscore, by the way.)

I have a counter on my current page — can I keep it?
We have to replace your counter with a Tripod counter. Unfortunately, the counter will start again at zero. Consider it a fresh start in your new home!

I have (Geocities, Angelfire, etc.) ads/branding all over my site. What happens to those?
We happily strip all those ads from your new site! They will be replaced with a Tripod pop-up window that encourages viewers to vote on your page — this will help you get prominently listed in our homepage directory. (You might also notice a small ad in the pop-up window — this helps pay for our super-fast servers. Did we mention how happy we think you'll be here at Tripod?)

I feel a little uncomfortable giving you my (Geocities, Angelfire, etc.) member name and password.
This is purely for your own protection. We don't want any old surfer to be able to steal your fabulous site! We will not keep a record of your (Geocities, Angelfire, etc.) member name and password.

Is this tool safe?
Yes, safe and harmless! By logging in twice (your Tripod member name and your other member name) we make sure that only you can copy your own site. And nothing gets deleted from your current location, so what do you have to lose? We hope you like your new home.
