Attaching a Monocular to the Epson PhotoPC 600

visitors since September 11, 1998

One of the difficulties in using a monocular with the Epson PhotoPC 600 is aligning the monocular with the camera's lens. Keeping it aligned while taking a picture can also be a challenge. Here is one way I've discovered of creating a reasonably steady mount for the monocular using the cap to a film canister and the Tiffen adapter that comes with the camera. This setup is somewhat of a tradeoff: It allows you to align the monocular and camera quite effectively, but it also means that the monocular eyepiece is further away from the camera lens than if you hold the two together without the adapter. As a result, there is slightly more vignetting in the resulting pictures.

Take a film canister cap and cut a hole in the center just inside the inner ring. The hole should be the same diameter as the eyepiece of the monocular.

Place the film cap over the eyepiece of the monocular. The fit should be snug, and you may have to stretch the film cap a little to pull it over the eyepiece.

Snap the film cap into the Tiffen lens adapter. The diameter of the film is exactly 37mm which is the same as the Tiffen lens adapter -- the two should fit perfectly. Now mount this on the camera.
