Image Expert File Association Fix

visitors since June 9, 1998

The Image Expert Software that comes with the Epson PhotoPC 600 has a nasty habit of taking over the Windows 95 .jpg file assocation -- each time it is run, it "reclaims" the .jpg file as its own. If this doesn't make sense to you, you probably don't need the information on this page. If you have noticed this problem, and you have version 1.1.4, 1.5.0 or 1.5.1, then the following instructions may help.

WARNING: Messing the Windows 95 registry is not for novices. A mistake in the wrong place can cause serious trouble. If you aren't familiar with the Windows 95 registry, don't try this! Even if you are familiar, make a backup before you do anything. Accidents happen. You are on your own if you try this. I disclaim all responsibility. Enough said!

1. Using the registry editor, find the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sierra Imaging\Image Expert\Install

2. Under this key create a new string value named "Associations", and give it the value ";". You should now have an entry that looks like the one highlighted below. If you don't, you've done something wrong.

3. Problem should be solved!
