It also explains different techniques for adding interactivity into your pages through forms, cgi-scripts, and other beyond-the-browser technologies. It also gives you real world case studies throughout the book of Web sites that can serve as great examples of excellent Web design. The Non-Designer's Design Book Robin Williams 1994 Peach Pit Press US$14.95 OK, you're making your personal homepages, and you're no Leonardo DiVinci. But Gif Girl doesn't accept that as an excuse for bad design. This book helps non-professional designers understand the basic principles behind design so that their work can look more professional, more attractive, and also be more functional. Williams also has excellent explanations for the basic tenants of typography, which as you Gif Girl groupies know is one of her favorite subjects. Plus, it's only 15 bucks...what are you waiting for? Teach Yourself Web Publishing with HTML 3.2 In A Week Laura LeMay 1996 Sams.net Publishing US$29.95 Wait a minute, Gif Girl, I thought this was about design, not code! Well, friends, Gif Girl is no hacker, but she knows that without a working knowledge of HTML, your Web design will languish in not-so-neat-and-tidiness. What she means to say is, you need to know the code to create tight, well-designed interfaces, and to take advantage of all that HTML has to offer. So suck it up and read Laura LeMay's excellent intro to HTML. She is also releasing updates of this book, so just look for the most recent one on bookstore shelves. Designing Web Graphics & Coloring Web Graphics Lynda Weinman both, 1996 New Riders US$50.00/each OK, you've already heard Gif Girl talk about Lynda Weinman and how she is the patron saint of Web graphics. Her first book, Designing Web Graphics, is a great introduction for not-so-advanced Web designers. Coloring Web Graphics is a great resources for beginners and more experienced Web designers alike, with lots of tips of processing graphics and optimizing color for the Web. Anyone who deals with the color/graphics side of Web design should give it a gander.
