The Adventures of Girl Girl

January 8, 1998
HTML Text:
More Versatile Than It Seems

Over and over again, Gif Girl has heard the lament of Web designers and page builders everywhere: "HTML text stinks! It looks like dog doo."

Sure, it's true that text control through HTML alone is limited, and therefore can feel horribly restrictive to those of us who consider aesthetics next to godliness. But we seasoned communication designers realize that this "limitation" is just another of those stimulating challenges that makes the Web such a fun place to work! (Right, kids?)

Seriously, though, there are a surprising number of things you can do to enhance the look of your HTML text; some are simple and some are very advanced. Gif Girl will now present a brief overview of the major areas of control we page designers have over those nasty little letters.

1. the basic tags
2. size
3. color
4. face

When Gif Girl isn't out saving the world from dithered graphics and illegible Web pages, she helps keep Tripod's pages running fast and furious.

Send Gif Girl your comments, ideas, suggestions, and — of course — your solutions for saving the world from bad Web page design. She'd love to hear from you.
