Tripod member SigridV asks:
I would like to know if there is anyway of fixing scratches in glass. While sanding some French doors I accidentally scratched some of the glass panes.
Handy Girl Al suggests:
Not much you can do, other than replacing the damaged panes. Some experts swear scratched glass can be ground down using professional polishers (others say "no way") but you'd probably still have to remove the panes from the door to do this.
In the future, you can protect nearby glass from dangerous projects like sanding or painting by covering exposed glass with taped-up newspaper. Try not to place tape directly on the glass as it may leave sticky residue.
Some glass cleaning tips:
Never scrape paint or other gunk off glass dry (add some soapy water).
Make sure any cleaning utensil, like a squeegee or scraper, is smooth and free of grit.
Only scrape in one direction.
