Step Three: Making the Purchase
This should be the third step in the process. It makes sense to think about making a purchase only if you have thoroughly considered the first two steps.
- Have you decided what features are important to your car (i.e. issues of size, price, performance, style, etc.)?
- Have you narrowed down your choices by thoroughly researching which models and options match your requirements?
If so, you should be able to enter three "finalists" onto the worksheet. I recommend having more than one car as a "finalist" so that competition among dealers will put you in a better position to negotiate. No matter how many finalists you have, ask yourself, What will determine my final choice? Price? A test drive? My experience with the dealer?
This section will offer some insight into four big issues that approach as you're getting ready to make a purchase. They are:
Should I buy new or used?
How do I pay for this car?
How do I set my price?
How do I get the price I want from the dealer?
