Bob

Straight Male

Tripod: What do you think is the most pressing issue in the world of contraception today?

Bob: Sexually transmitted diseases, probably.

Tripod: Tell me the best way to make contraception more exciting.

Bob: Well, it's more exciting when you know you're safe. So, something that is safe and where you don't have to worry about something happening, something with a very low risk, it's probably the most fun the day after, 'cause you know you've had sex but you feel safe that you don't have any diseases. So that's probably the best part of how I see contraception -- Feeling okay, not worrying about having AIDS the next day. So it's exciting in that respect. I don't know if that's what you mean by exciting, but that's what excites me.

Tripod: Give me your best line to use to bring up contraceptives with a new partner. Make up a motto or saying.

Bob: I just say, "should I use a condom?" That's all.

Tripod: How would you handle a situation where you and your partner are very  ready for sex, but realize that you don't have any contraceptives? Do you take a chance?

Bob: Probably.

Tripod: What if you or your partner were on the pill? Would you take a chance?

Bob: Again, probably.

Tripod: Is it possible to incorporate contraception into sexual role playing without losing the excitement?

Bob: I think so. It's definitely possible. I mean, quite often you do. And I have before. It's not that much worse, but it is significantly not as fun as not using it.

Tripod: Sexually, is there anything that shocks you nowadays?

Bob: No.

Tripod: I understand that with many types of contraceptives, it's good to use some type of spermicidal lubricant. Play out a situation for me, where getting out that ugly tube and squeezing out that junk becomes part of the buildup to sex.

Bob: This is completely confidential -- it's been used for, you know, anal sex. It makes it more comfortable for her.

Tripod: Do you use protection during oral sex? Why or why not?

Bob: Not for oral sex, no. I think -- and a lot of other people probably also think -- it's for intercourse. Not for oral sex. When you talk about contraception, most people think about the pill or a condom, not dental dams and stuff like that.

Tripod: From your experience, personal or otherwise, what is the most sensitive brand of condom?

Bob: I don't know.

Tripod: What do you think of the female condom?

Bob: What is it? I haven't heard of that.
