Well, I think that's up to the individual. You have to be resourceful. There's lots of ways to make it more exciting. I've made it more exciting in my life. I started using latex 12 or 13 years ago, right from the very beginning, and twelve, thirteen years ago, when AIDS first came into play, first came into the media. And I'm from Europe and it was on prime time TV, and they have the infomercials all the time about it. My mother, who's Irish Catholic, and doesn't even say the word sex, all of a sudden, because of the media hype over there, and how the general public are educated, she'll say, "Have you got your condoms?" It's talked about much more freely in Europe than it is over here and it angers me and frustrates me that it's not over here.

[laughs] I'm not sure if you could make it more exciting. I think it's something that everyone is skittish about. I think you just have to become more comfortable in talking about it. I have some material on my site that encourages parents to talk about it. First just to repeat the words over and over, just to get used to saying them. In real life I am a chemist, and in the middle of lab, I can now stand up and start talking about condoms, and lubricant, and things like that. Before, I would have been absolutely mortified to. It just comes with familiarity. At least we can say "condom" now on television.

I would think that what makes contraception exciting is to find a contraceptive method that works with the personality of the couple involved. So that if you find a method that you're comfortable with, usually you can then find ways to incorporate it into your life in a way that it isn't intrusive. Oftentimes, barrier methods can be incorporated into the process of foreplay, and all of that makes it easier and more positive to use.

Well, it's more exciting when you know you're safe. So, something that is safe and where you don't have to worry about something happening, something with a very low risk, it's probably the most fun the day after, 'cause you know you've had sex but you feel safe that you don't have any diseases. So that's probably the best part of how I see contraception -- Feeling okay, not worrying about having AIDS the next day. So it's exciting in that respect. I don't know if that's what you mean by exciting, but that's what excites me.

There's a lot of ways to make contraception a lot more exciting ... Using a condom can make it fun by not just putting it on conventionally ... You can play it into the sex part. You can have the woman put it on, or you can both put it on. If it's non-lubricated, you can put it on with your mouth. It doesn't necessarily have to be an awkward experience to put on.

When someone reaches for the contraception it can be a really sexy, erotic moment. It can be totally brought into the play. Also, applying a condom to a man's penis can be extremely exciting. Extremely. If you take your time and do it slowly, it doesn't have to be like, "Okay, here's some work we've got to do to enjoy the fun." It can be a part of the fun. Rolling it onto the penis slowly, caressing while you're doing so. It can really add to the excitement -- add to the buildup.
