Tripod Insider

Vol. 2, No. 13

August 2, 1996

Welcome to another Tripod Insider -- your source for all things Tripod. This week Tripod goes "hardcore," whatever that means. Read more about the office news after editors tell you what's new on Tripod.

Content And Services

WORK & MONEY
Tripod members who have used our interactive Resume Builder know all about the importance of ACTION verbs. A quick look at this week's Work & Money section reveals that this lesson hasn't been lost on our staff and contributors. First, Harry Goldstein's "Working Life" column ATTACKS the Congress for dragging its feet on raising the minimum wage. Then interview subject Bruce Tulgan, author of "Managing Generation X", tells how to STRIKE bargains in the workplace. Finally, the Dilemma attempts to RESCUE a small business person DROWNING in bookwork, while the Survey on the Microsoft Monopoly is EXPLODING with activity. Get in on the action -- drop by the Work & Money section.

POLITICS & COMMUNITY
This week in Politics & Community, Leslie Hinkson warns of the death of multiculturalism. Heather Lamm, daughter of Reform Party candidate Richard Lamm, speaks with Tripod about the upcoming election, the Social Security crisis, and Third Millenium, a twenty-something advocacy group. Political Playbook covers Capitol Hill's sanction attempts. Plus, should bomb plans be available on the Internet? We want to hear from you.

HOMELIFE
This week in Living and Travel, Tripod interviews journalist Nick Hartshorn, who took a Honda Civic and three mitts on the road to play catch with America. Roadtrip hits the West as Ethan and Rachel get lost in Montana, and Team Malaysia its their first medal of the games. Doctor Bob answers questions on inverted nipples, knee trouble, and missed periods. And tell us, in the survey: How do you get cool like dat? Tips for hot summer days and nights.

Tripod Insider

Earlier this week, Kara, Tripod's Director or Communications (also know as the "Communicatrix") berated me for using the word "hardcore." She correctly pointed out that the word means absolutely nothing. That doesn't stop many of us from using "hardcore" to describe the way we work and play at Tripod.

For example, Bruce the Beancounter hosted another infamous poker game last Friday than can be described as no less than hardcore. Janet did not fare as well this time, but her office mate, Margaret, continued the rookie tradition and slipped out of the game with pockets full of change. The game resumed later that night and lasted until 3 AM, complete with cigars and cold pizza.

The Communicatrix herself continues to have some pretty hardcore car troubles. On the way back from Boston last weekend, Kara's car died yet again. This time she was 40 miles east of Williamstown in Charlemont. She was towed all the way back to town only to find that the problem was a single loose bolt. In other automobile news, Mike's car suffered a flat tire on the way to lunch. Fortunately, he was only a few blocks from the office.
