This week, Tripod throws a party and Tung throws, well, you can read more about that and other office news after editors tell you what's new on Tripod.
Content And Services
WORK & MONEY
Psssst! Have you heard that the Work & Money section is getting down and dirty with this week's Harry Goldstein column on office gossip? As if that weren't enough, there is a heated debate over the minimum wage in the interactive survey! Of course, more high-minded individuals can elect to help a fellow Tripod member with his Dilemma --finding unusual sources of tuition and free scholarship money for his daughter. But those of you who follow rumors and innuendo about the computer industry would probably rather read my report from the Boston MacWorld Expo. Either way, drop by the Work & Money section and be a part of the growing buzz!

POLITICS & COMMUNITY
This week in Politics & Community, Greenpeace chats with Tripod about "direct non-violent confrontation". Is freeing a whale or hanging a sign on a nuclear cooling tower a consciousness raising activity? Or is it an example of environmental terrorism? Read the interview and decide for yourself. Ted Rall welcomes the next stock market crash in "Dump Everything!" Political Playbook covers the flurry of sex offender legislation that took place before the summer recess. We review the latest album from Senegal's "Positive Black Soul." Plus, pick a campaign theme song for Bill and Bob in the weekly survey.

LIVING & TRAVEL
This week in Living & Travel, we investigate our common culture -- is it high culture or ad culture? Take our "Adcult" quiz to find out. Then check out the interview with James Twitchell, author of "Adcult USA." He explains why religion and advertising are kindred spirits, and why wearing a polo shirt is like casting a spell. In the first installment of a series, Steve Taormina speaks up for homeopathy (you've heard of "hair of the dog," right?). Each Thursday, he'll explain a different homeopathic remedy. As usual, the doctor is in: this week, contacts in bed and tick bites. And don't forget to play doctor with Tripod. In Tools for Thought, check out a review of the movie "Welcome to the Dollhouse," a harrowing account of Junior High. But then again, have you ever met anyone who enjoyed Junior High?

This past Friday, Tripod threw a whopper of a company party. The promise of free food and drink was enough to lure Matt Goldberg out of his beloved New York City. The editor of the soon-to-be-launched "Tools for Life" magazine came all the way out for a weekend in the country. The highlight of the evening, however, was neither the presence of the city-folk, nor the scathing limericks that the summer interns recited; the most exciting event turned out to be watching a beaver swim up and down the Green River from the bar's patio. In other party news, Bob Galloway and DeWitt Clinton, who began the summer as tech interns, capitalized on the festive atmosphere and mooched job offers from the C.E.Bo. Congratulations and welcome aboard, guys; the leg irons are in the mail. The arrival of new staff, however, will be balanced by the departure of some of our summer interns. Matt Hall, Scott Case, Brian Berklich and Camille Utterback, who have all refused to shave their heads in homage to Jeff and Tony, will be leaving us this week.
And on an equally somber and final note, our fearless leader and Voice Of Tripod, Tung Pham, has been felled by a stomach virus (Nauseasae tungcesicus). In his delirium, he has foolishly allowed the membership interns to compose this Tripod Insider. Tung claims his nausea is completely unrelated to any excesses perpetrated at the company party; but we're not so sure. Regardless, get well messages, virus protection software, and compliments for his interns may be directed to his email address below.
