Tripod Insider

Vol. 2, No. 2

February 16, 1996

Welcome to the post-Valentine's Day Tripod Insider, your source for all the latest news on -- and off -- the Tripod web site. This issue brings with it money talk, a wedding, extreme shopping, and a complete site redesign.

If you won the Publisher's Clearing House 11 million dollar sweepstakes, what's the first thing you would buy? Tripod did not win the sweepstakes, but we did receive our much awaited investment capital. After weeks of pinching pennies and dodging the AMEX bill, we can finally purchase some much needed supplies and equipment. The first purchase was not new software, more hardware, or that wristpad for Scott, our producer. No, the first thing we bought was toilet paper. That's right, 96 rolls to be exact. We may be on the Web but some things will never be virtual.

On a more lively topic. Tripod is now a wedding registry. Not really, but Margaret, our Creative Director, is getting married (this Saturday in fact). She received such a haul in gifts, she was on a first name basis with the UPS man.

With all the talk of weddings and vamp nail polish, the women at Tripod are rocking the boat in the previously male dominated office. Not to be left behind the times, Jeff proved that he is equally versatile outside of the tech suite. In order to cross the gender gap Jeff endured what can only be considered a out of body experience: an entire Saturday afternoon, three women, one mall, and a whole lot of shopping. Jeff joined Kara, our Advertising Director; Emma, staff writer; and Jen, Emma's roommate, on a quest for women's wear. They covered all the basics, including lingerie. Jeff won big points with the women for this outing and when asked about the experience he remarked, "It was exhausting, but fun. However, I don't know if I would do it again any time soon." Go Jeff.

Before running off to get married, Margaret layed out a completely new design for Tripod. Just when you thought you had that navigation bar figured out, we done changed everything around. Tripod content is now organized into three sections. Tri-pod, three sections, get it? We're still working out all the kinks, so bear with us. If you are looking for a particular feature on Tripod, you can always refer to our handy map:

We've simplified the sections to make the information more accessible. With the Work & Money section, Tripod helps you find stability in an inherently unstable environment. In the Politics & Community section, you will find tools to understand politics and affect change in your community. And the HOMELIFE section is an experience in culture, irreverence and healthy living.

Tripod Today, your source for news, weather, sports, and more is now called the Daily Scoop. Same great information, just a different name.

We also improved Tripod's world famous Homepage Builder by adding some additional functionality to our basic homepage building tool. Tripod now hosts nearly 3000 member homepages. With our improved Homepage Builder, making your own page is even easier. If you haven't updated your page lately, isn't it about time you visited Tripod.

If you've always wondered who are the people behind Tripod, we have a new staff page, complete with candid photos. Our little "spot" takes a very probing look into the lives of the Tripod Team.
