Tripod Insider

Vol. 3, No. 31

August 1, 1997

Welcome to the Tripod Insider. This week, Tripod gets some new workers -- and a new star! Find out all about it after seeing what's new on the site.

Content And Services

NEW ON TRIPOD

This week, Tripod's Living section tackles the ordeal we all face at one time or another: relocating. Moving shouldn't leave a sour taste in your mouth, and Spike Gillespie, who's made eight moves between five cities, warns that you gotta start with a plan. Learn how to do it from a veteran who learned the hard way in Bubblewrap's "Love Don't Pay the Rent."

Then, forget those staid annual ratings of the best cities to live in. What do *you* care about when you're thinking of moving to a new city? The nightlife? Your contacts? Help us build a guide to choosing a great place to live with our interactive survey on alternative criteria for rating a city.

Finally, join the Living conference on "What Makes a City Livable?" and tell us how you decide where to drop your bags.

—Lori Tuckett, Bubblewrap editor

Tripod's Health/Sports section has just launched its first installment of "Ask the Experts." Are you clueless about how to eat right? Do you wonder whether vegetarianism is all it's cracked up to be? Well, here's your chance to have your nutrition questions answered by Tripod's expert. And check in with the doctors too. This week, Dr. Bob handles CPR, cervical cancer, and marijuana testing, while Dr. Migdow tackles psoriasis and pubic itch.

—Lori Tuckett, Health Editor

NEW ON SCREENLIFE

Whenever the mainstream media mention personal publishing, their words drip with condescension. Why are the mass media so hard on the media of the masses? This week in YourLife, the Mining Co.'s Pamela O'Connell says the bullies should step off.

Sometimes making your page go from blah to beautiful is easier than you think. Find all the right stuff with the resources that we've added to the Web/Tech Toolbox this week in LifeSupport.

And check out the latest news and happening in the Tripod member community. Come join a Pod!

—Michelle Chihara, Screenlife Editor

Tripod Insider

Every week I report on our one new employee, but this week we've kicked it up a notch. First, we welcome Kristen Battles as our new receptionist. We're hoping Kristen can figure out the phone system quick, 'cause we're all still pretty baffled by it. And joining us all the way from Saltillo, in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila, is Federico Jordan, long one of our favorite freelancers and now (for the next few months, at least) a staff designer. Federico seems like a nice fellow, and he should fit in just fine. (That bag full of tequila he brought with him won't hurt him none, either...)

Outside the office for a moment (whoopee!), Tripod designer Little Matty Quann made quite a splash in the Williamstown theatre scene last weekend with his performance in "Burger King," an experimental one-act. Though he had no lines in the play, Matty Q's stage presence was electric; and now the word is that "Burger King" — and our quickly rising star — may be Broadway-bound this fall.
