DISCOVERING LYCOS

We don't get out much in Williamstown. When a bunch of Tripod staffers found themselves in Boston recently, Margaret's suggestion that we head to a Boston landmark, The Purple Shamrock, was met with enthusiasm. Imagine our surprise when we discovered it was karaoke night. It came as no surprise, however, that Kara and Margaret both knew all the words to Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive."
Not to be outdone, Paul, Don, Bruce, and I took the stage in the hopes of performing The Village People's "YMCA." Unfortunately, the Shamrock didn't have that disco classic, and we found ourselves performing Madonna's "Like a Virgin." We knew Bo wouldn't disappoint us. He and Joann performed UB40's "Red, Red Wine." Bo may in fact be congenitally reggae-impaired, but he did an admirable job with the rap stretches. The bar seemed to think we'd all put in a good effort. We got a standing ovation. . . when we left the bar for the night.
Next week, we introduce another set of new faces at Tripod -- would they have joined us if they'd known about our karaoke problems?
