tripod implements pop-up window on member pages |
Below is a copy of a letter sent to all Tripod members with homepages announcing the launch of the pop-up window along with the introduction of Tripod Guestbooks and Answering Machines for all Tripod members. Dear Tripod Member,
This past month we tested alternative methods of advertising on Tripod member Web pages. Thank you for your feedback throughout this process. Our goal was to develop a solution where 1) free member pages would no longer have advertisements placed directly on them, and 2) Tripod would continue to benefit from the navigation and advertising opportunities that member pages present. Without advertising, Tripod would not be able to provide free homepages to our members.
TRIPOD TO LAUNCH POP-UP WINDOW
After extensive testing, Tripod has decided to begin site-wide use of a separate, smaller browser window served simultaneously with the first member page visited. This pop-up window will be used to display advertising and related Tripod links. Advertisements will no longer be placed directly on member pages. Members who paid for the no-ad option as part of their Premium Membership package will not have the pop-up window displayed with their pages.
Tripod is excited about integrating this pop-up window with member pages. The pop-up window contains helpful links back to Tripod and will become an increasingly useful navigation tool for connecting the Tripod community.
In response to member concerns, rather than serving the pop-up window with every page, the window will be served and/or updated once per member Web site. In other words, the window will be launched the first time a visitor visits a Tripod member page and will remain (unchanged) if they visit other pages within that member's Web site. Moreover, the pop-up window will not be updated (or relaunched) unless the visitor visits the page of a different Tripod member. Also with the help of member feedback, we identified and fixed a number of technical issues with the pop-up window that we tested.
TRIPOD OFFERS FREE GUESTBOOKS AND ANSWERING MACHINES
In conjunction with the launch of the pop-up window, Tripod is also offering free guestbooks and answering machines to all members for use on their homepages. Previously available only to Premium Members, Tripod is now offering these popular services to all Tripod members. The Tripod Guestbook allows visitors to leave and read messages, while the Tripod Answering Machine allows visitors to leave messages that only the owner of the page can read.
Tripod will continue to pass on the many benefits that successful advertising allows us to give to our members. The launch of Tripod Guestbooks and Answering Machines for all members is the first of a number of planned improvements to our homepage building services.
