From Anthony Qaiyum, Politics & Community Editor:
We've just wrapped up the first stage of our March Madness contest, and we're really happy that so many of you have participated. Sports have never been a part of Tripod, but once again you have shown that you are always willing to try new things. That's one of the reasons that I enjoy working here. I know that our members and visitors like being surprised. Because of all your encouragement, you can be sure that we'll have more contests and fun games in the future. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please share them with us. They don't have to involve sports; in fact, we'd love to do something a little different.
In the meantime, we're all watching to see who will win the NCAA tournament. UMASS is obviously a favorite here in Williamstown, MA. There's a good chance that we've all picked them to win in our office pool. That's okay. That just means that the earlier rounds will have more significance -- and I think I've picked some key upsets. We'll see!
Mother Nature is torturing us with beautiful spring weather. Bruce described the past few days perfectly as, "those times when you can ski with just a t-shirt and a shell." It's so damn hard to sit at a computer all day when it's sunny and warm outside. What's worse is that we have plastic insulation on the inside of our windows to save on heating bills, so now it feels like we're trapped in a fish bowl. Here in the editorial office, we're surviving by spinning some spring music (e.g. D'Angelo's "Brown Sugar" and John Coltrane's "Giant Steps") and waiting for the OK to rip down the Saran Wrap and get a breeze going.
I'd like to thank everyone for all the feedback and comments we've been receiving. That's the nice thing about working at a fairly small company -- we read all of our mail and we have the time to reply. So if there's something you'd like to see on Tripod, tell us about it. There's a good chance that we'll use your suggestions in some way.
Enjoy the coming spring weather. Don't spend so much time on the Internet -- except for your regular Tripod visit, of course!
