From Jeff Vander Clute, Ingenieur Web:
Hmm... No. Better than that, this is the lesser half of Tripod Tech coming
to you, bleary-eyed and burnt out, from our second-floor suite filled with
junk food, syrypy drinks, and expensive new toys. Not a pretty sight, but
at least the myriad catalogues and unsigned purchase orders have mostly
been thrown out, and our server is not crashing with the astonishing
frequency of a week ago.
My friend and coworker -- or is it coworker and friend? -- finally
returned from two weeks on the West Coast playing beach soccer and
singing a capella for Williams College alumni... I mean,
really. Happily, paybacks are hell, and he's about to get his just
desserts: Confirmation of my enrollment in the Fifth International
World Wide Web Conference arrived today, so it looks like I'll be
spending two glorious weeks in Paris next month.
My revenge will indeed be sweet. It so happens that I love France
beyond all reason and hope someday to expatriate. Special thanks to
Ethan for bringing this conference to my attention, and to Bruce and
Scott for not saying no! At any rate, while I'm abroad, I'd be most
excited to meet a few of our French members. If that's you, write to
me at jeff@tripod.com. And remember, dinner's on Tripod!
But that's enough reverie for now. Williamstown in April is a far cry
from Paris in May. In the meantime, there is work, and as usual we are
all really, really busy elaborating and refining Tripod. Happily, I'm
taking the weekend off to visit my parents in Virginia. That is, if I
can finish this letter... Nobody told me that writing was in this
programmer's job description!
Toodles,
-- Jeff Vander Clute, Ingenieur Web (4/17/96)
