From Kara Berklich, Director of Communications:So, the point of these letters is for us to give you a message about who we are. I define myself in large part via the people with whom I spend time. And when you live in a town like Williamstown, you're sort of limited to a small number of people.
That said, this is a pretty amazing town. Full of cool people. So in order to keep myself sane and deal with the fact that the summer is almost over, I'm going to write a little bit about some of the people I've met this summer. The ones I really like tell you a lot about me, maybe? I hope so.
Jennie and Michael are actually two people, but they are a team when it comes to managing the Williamstown Theatre Festival. And a wonderful team at that. Warm, friendly, and remarkably unassuming for being relative bigwigs in the theatre world (or so it seems to an outsider). They're great, too. No contest.
Eric is a movie star. He was interesting to talk to for that reason (and since I'm embarassingly starstruck), but in the end reminded me of a frog, somewhat.
Jason deals with me day in and day out and does it smilingly which my mother can tell you is no small feat. He didn't really have any Web experience when he started at Tripod a few weeks ago and is already rising to significant Web design stardom. He rocks.
Todd works for a TV network. One that you may be Friends with. He's full of ideas I'm convinced that if I communicate hard enough, I can talk him in to writing a sitcom about this wacky town we live in.
Lewis is a super-cool guy. And he will probably vomit at that description when he reads this. I really like Lewis because he's unbelievably funny, makes part of his living being funny, and finds incredible humor in human annoyingness. Like I do. I still need to talk him into letting me be part of his crew or something next time he's on Conan O'Brien. Are you reading, Lewis? I'm not kidding around, here. Lewis may be my favorite of the summer.
Nadine works with me at Tripod. Including her here is sort of cheating because I knew her pre-summer. But she's so cool, and I've become much better acquainted with her this summer, so it jives. We share a love of bedding. Which Margaret and Emma also share. So she's an ideal Tripod female, as far as we're concerned. Having her in our NYC office makes things fun, even though it's The Big City.
So there you have a sampling of some of the people I've met in this itty-bitty town we live, work, play, eat, sleep, drink, and everything else in. I think it wouldn't work if it weren't so full of interesting people. Thank God it is. Makes the communicating much, much easier!
Yours in chatting,
Kara, Director of Communications (8/22/97)
