From Siouxsie Fava, Designer:

Well, it's been one year since I started here at Tripod, and I'm still here. Wow, it is nice to be here in the Berkshires — close to all and far from nothing.

I recently spent a long weekend in Montreal, Canada to catch the Beastie Boys show at the Molson Center. It was just a 5 hour drive from here — a much preferred drive when compared to the drive down to the N.J. Meadowlands.

The weather was great, and the show rocked. My boyfriend and I were up there for about 4 days. We had plenty of time to check out the city. And what a city! It rules: it's clean, easy to get around, and has great food. Dave and I aren't into the tourist thing, so we tried to find local places to hang like Le Mad — A local microbrew bar with some really friendly locals.

We also spent half a day on Ile Ste. Helene — the site of the 1967 World's Fair. We had planned to go to the Casino de Montreal since my boyfriend Dave has never set foot into a casino. We were denied — it turned out that the casino had a strict dress code, and cut-off shorts were not allowed. Oh well, we were happier outside in the incredible weather anyway.

Our hotel was located on St. Denis, which I can only compare to St. Marks in Manhattan. It was a hole in the wall hotel, but clean and cheap. There were great restaurants right up the street, and lots of bars and night clubs. It was really easy to get to the Saint Lawrence river-front "tourist" area of old Montreal from the hotel. I must say though, that the modern architecture and sculpture was just as fabulous as the old.

The opening act at the show was Biz Markie. Originally, it was supposed to be A Tribe Called Quest, but they had just broken up. We didn't mind. It was all good! And just so you know the stage was round and rotated! DOPE! It was a great time and Montreal will see me again soon.
