Matt Goldberg
Editorial Director for Print/Offline Projects
mattyg@tripod.com
Once upon a time, Matt volunteered to be Tripod's first Virtual Employee.
Ensconced in a cramped studio apartment in New York City, Matt warmed to
the role of guinea pig, pretending that the stuffed animals perched on his loft were helpful and congenial coworkers. (We know, that's pretty pathetic but at least he never had to buy them lunch). Anyway, now that he is all set up in Tripod's swanky new offices in New York's SoHo district, Matt can talk on the phone and surf the Web simultaneously. He's even putting together a Tripod book for Hyperion Press. Oh yeah, and he can go to the bathroom without having to close down the joint. Now we're getting somewhere!

Emma Jane Taylor
Editor, Women's Zone, Home/Family, Shopping
emma@tripod.com
Emma brings a much-needed touch of British reserve and class
to the gaggle of hooligans at Tripod. While the rest of us are
pinging off the walls in a deadline frenzy, Emma calmly sips her
four dozen daily cups of tea and peacefully types away to the strains
of classical music on NPR. But anyone who has seen her muscle her
way to the front of the cocktail queue at local watering hole Mezze or watched
her set off airport metal detectors with her belly-button ring knows
that there's an unpredictable side to our demure English rose.

Randy Williams
Editor, Entertainment, Computers/Internet
randy@tripod.com
Randy, apart from being teased about his fervor for Elvis Costello, Barenaked Ladies, and the Simpsons, is the subject of office speculation about the late nights he spends hunched over his beloved Macintosh, purportedly working on mysterious "creative writing projects." During the daylight hours he edits and writes for Tripod's Entertainment and Computers/Internet Zones, collaborates on interactive features, and supervises the weekly letters from the Tripod staff. We started to say that he wears so many hats he's a regular Bartholomew Cubbins, but there's a problem most hats, including the ones marked "one size fits all," won't fit on his big ol' goofy head. "How sad," Randy has been known to say, "not to be part of 'all.'"
Dan Reines
Editor, Society/Culture, Health/Sports
dan@tripod.com
Dan decided that Tripod was the place for him after all the newspapers he
worked for abruptly went out of business. We're not sure how well his presence
here bodes for Tripod's future, but damn it, we like living on the edge. Dan left the City of the Angels in '96 and showed up in Williamstown with an elaborate goatee to rival Randy's, a seriously stylish Los Lobos hat, and a boatload of bracing wit and snarky humor. Dan's the kind of guy who keeps us honest by cutting us no slack, and we love him for it. There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that the rest of the editorial staff is planning an elaborate "payback."
Lori Tuckett
Editor, Jobs/Career, Money/Business, Health/Sports
lori@tripod.com
Lori used to work at MacNeil/Lehrer Productions, but she got tired of dealing with cranky, opinionated old fogies. We're sure the change will do her good now she's working with cranky, opinionated young Web dorks. Her senior thesis at Yale was entitled, "The Economic Prospects of Russia's Transition to Capitalism." Sounds deep, but we were more intrigued to learn that she was offered the chance to be a "featured player" on MTV's soap opera verité, "Real World: San Francisco." We're awfully proud that she'd rather be part of "Surreal World: Billsville."
