There are innumerable sites on the Web that offer HTML tutorials, shareware, and free images. This list represents the sites we have found most useful for honing our web building skills and gathering web page building tools.
Basic HTML Guides
Introduction to HTML: my favorite. Friendly writing, comprehensive info, and a good glossary.
Wade's WWW: next best. Comprehensive, easy to read (although in a plain Jane layout), with a "jumpstart" version of the HTML tutorial.
The Bare Bones Guide to HTML: this page just lists HTML tags and their function, without any explanatory text. If you know the basics of HTML, but just want to print out a reference source, go here.
HTML: Hyper Text Markup Language: exhaustive, and like they say, Authoritative. Not for people without a lot of time.
NCSA Beginner's Guide to HTML: the comprehensive, classic primer for learning HTML. It offers all the basic information you need to create web pages.
HTML Style Guides
Sun Guide to Web Style: the designers at Sun have written what I consider the Strunk and White of the Web. The guide gives essential interface and text guidelines that will make your page much more elegant and useful.
Art and the Zen of Web Sites: a brief, opinionated guide to building a presentable web page. A snipet of the wisdom: "Colored or textured backgrounds, weirdly colored text or links, and a preoccupation with appearance over content are sure signs of a 'first generation' web site."

Great Reference Sites
Webreference.com: everyone from HTML Rookies to web wizards can find the information they need at this site. Especially good for more esoteric knowledge about Java, Image processing, and cross-platform design. However, don't let the technical side scare you away, there are lots of good basic tutorials here too.
Web Review: a weekly web publication that offers columns on intelligent web page design. This is a good source for current developments in web design and clearly written beginner articles.
BrowserWatch: this site collects the latest news, rumours, and links about web browsers and web plug-ins. A great up-to-the-minute resource.
Linda's Homegurrl Page: attitude, good design tips, and pointers to graphics and web-building helper applications.
Falken's Maze: a first-rate compendium of page-building tools, images, graphics, icons, etc.
Plug-Ins and Other Tools
Netscape Plug-ins Page: plug-ins are additions which add functionality to Netscape like the ability to play audio and video. This page contains the most current list of available software.
RealAudio Website: RealAudio allows playback of audio in real-time over Internet connections. Many of the sound files available over the Internet are in RealAudio format.
Table Maker is a great online device for creating tables on your Web page: just type in the parameters and copy the code over to your page.

WWW Images Graphics Icons Buttons: one of the larger and better organized graphic sites.
The Icon Bazaar: a collection of great icons and images you can use on your pages.
Trendy.Net: this site offers graphics especially designed for homepage builders. You will find a lot of the basics images to spruce up your page here.
