"My daughter has entered her 3rd year of college (maintaining a 3.0 GPA). Her major is Laboratory Sciences. We have heard and read about people that have found unconventional scholarships available (all free money). Where do you find information on these scholarships? Are they anywhere on the web ?"
98spc_2: Check out the financial aid section of Tripod's money essentials. The URL is "http://www.tripod.com/work/essentials/money/index.html"
GooRoo: Whatever you do, DON'T pay anyone for this type ofinformation! Some are charging as much as $400.00 plus. Most colleges already know where the money comes from -- so you should be able to talk to someone there. Also, by stopping by a local library you can get a book of philanthropists in your area. Banks have certain funds that they support but, usually, they go through the schools. Chances are, unless you have an unusual name which is somehow linked to an organization, you're pretty much in the "level playing field" with the rest of us. Unfortunately a number of these "special" grants aren't for real. (Fedworld at: "http://www.fedworld.com" also has lists of grants.) Good luck!
lesslie: Check the government resourse called FEDIX. As soon as a grant is posted, info is sent to you via e-mail for free. I use it and have found many interesting grants. Use a search engine and type "FEDIX". Good luck. Aloha, Lesslie
