4. How did your college major / graduate school degree help prepare you for your career path?
Surprisingly, my training in radio and writing ability both contributed to my current work. This phenomenon is entirely new to me.
5. What necessary career information was missing from your studies? How did you pick up those skills and knowledge?
Computer literacy/UNIX environments/HTML programming. Picked up all of these while working for NCSA What's New.
6. What difficulties did you encounter entering your chosen field?
It was near impossible to enter the radio industry in San Francisco. I happened to be lucky to land a job in the Internet industry just as audio was becoming a possibility.
7. Why would you recommend your company or job?
It's fun and creative work, and it's gratifying to see it being promoted so well.
8. How does the size of your company impact your sense of job satisfaction?
Sometimes I like working for a mega-corporation like AOL. It has the muscle and stamina to be experimental and adventurous. Unfortunately, a lot of the time it chooses not to be.
9. What three things are most rewarding about the work you do?
- reaches a large audience
- allows me to be creative
- gets me recognized on the street

- red tape
- sorting out aesthetic differences with bosses and co-workers
- not enough time to get everything done

- writing really good jokes for the show
- recording sessions
- in-the-field sessions

Axe-murder Uncle Dutch, gun down Uncle Dutch, strangle Uncle Dutch.
13. How big a role does technology play in your career?
Huge. We're in a tough spot, trying to predict when and how audio will be a TRULY viable option to reach the masses through the Net.
14. How do you distinguish yourself from your co-workers?
My striped hair.
