Prague
The history of Prague (Praha in Czech) is evident in its layout: The city has a medieval center, modern communist outskirts, and architecture from every major period and style in between. Prague's buildings, unlike those in many Eastern European cities, survived World War II undamaged, and the city is a testament to Europe's architectural history. Prague's cultural vibrancy greets you at every turn of the cobblestone streets, in the sculptures, colorful roofline frescoes, clever concert posters, talented street musicians, and roaring beer halls. It's no wonder that young Americans have flocked to Prague in search of the Left Bank of the '90s. Unfortunately, they've started to wear their welcome thin. Prices have risen so drastically that Czechs can only watch while tourists feast in the restaurants they used to frequent in the city center.
