Champagne and The North
A history of bickering monarchies, two world wars, and wafts of industrial smoke have left Champagne and the North lacking in the easy charm that most of France enjoys. This region seduces relatively few tourists from Paris and the rest of the country, but the millions of bottles of bubbly maturing in chalky tunnels carved under towns like Reims make Champagne worth a visit. Even if you can't snag a bottle for a good price, at the very least, you'll get a complimentary glass at the end of a tour.
