Normandy
Every summer, tourists swarm to Normandy's medieval city of Rouen, the magnificent rock island of Mont St-Michel, and the popular seaside resorts along the northern coast. All three areas merit the attention, but they have little in common with the rest of isolated and inward-looking Normandy. Away from the hordes of vacationing Brits and Parisians, travelers can happily lose themselves in the region's cliff-lined coast, apple orchards, and green countryside, where a crowd is a Norman farmer with his herd of brown-and-white cows.
