Provence
What many visitors remember best about Provence is the light. The sunlight here is vibrant and alive, bathing the vineyards, olive groves, and fields full of lavender and sunflowers with an intensity that captivated Cézanne and van Gogh. Bordering the Mediterranean and flanked by the Alps and the Rhône River, Provence attracts hordes of visitors, especially during frequent summer festivals. Fortunately, many of the tourists are siphoned off to the beaches along the Riviera, which is a part of Provence but whose jet-set image somehow doesn't fit in with the rest of the region.
