Western Ireland
The west embodies all the stereotypes generally associated with Ireland--thatched cottages, sheep, rugged seascapes, misty bogland, and firelit country pubs, all processed through a filter of Guinness and traditional music. Fortunately, these characterizations hold more truth than many cynics might expect, which helps to explain why the west is the second most touristed part of the country, and often the highlight of a trip to Ireland. Even with the heavy influx of summertime travelers, a few areas--notably Doolin--balance accessibility with an authentic take on rural Ireland.
