Sørlandet
In the summer, Oslo's residents migrate to the southern coast to soak up some sunshine while the rest of the country suffers from incessant rain. Unfortunately, unless you have plenty of time or a car, you'll probably catch only glimpses of the spectacular Sørlandet region through a train window. The international ferry ports of Kristiansand and Stavanger are easy to reach, but there's no reason to make a special effort to see them. Your best bet for exploring Sørlandet (composed of Telemark, Aust Auger, Vest Auger, and Vestfold counties) is to pick a remote youth hostel or mountain hut and make your way there.
