Bukovina
In the northeastern corner of Romania, Bukovina is one of the country's most isolated and pristine provinces. This stunningly wild land teems with medieval-looking villages and anachronistic farming settlements. Travelers must rough it a bit; but if you don't mind foraging for food in the occasional market, you'll discover a part of the world untainted by cement and technology. Even better, you'll get the chance to explore Bukovina's painted monasteries, considered some of Romania's outstanding artistic treasures.
