Don't limit your stay in Catalunya to Barcelona; this autonomous region has other charms. Lounge on the beaches along the Mediterranean coast; they've been a popular destination for thousands of years--the Greeks were here a good two millennia ago, leaving behind fascinating ruins at Empúries. Wherever the Greeks went the Romans were sure to follow, and now cities like Tarragona offer impressive evidence of their civilization. If hiking is more your liking, head to the spectacular Pyrenees mountain range, though reaching it will entail conquering some transportation challenges.
