1999 Grand Prize Winner A Wonderful Chill, Eat, and Defend Scheme of Eating Peeps
THERE IS NO SEASON OF PEEPS
Anyone can eat PEEPS in season, but for me the
joy comes in August or September. PEEPS, like a
fine wine, are best when aged. A claret bunny, or
a fine yellow morsel chick, develop a crisp outer
shell that is best when slightly chilled.
Then there is the technique. I shop the Big Lots
where I purchase my finer selections for 25 cents
on the dollar. Box and all are chilled in the fridge
for 30 minutes at 38 degrees F.
I have a special knife I use for slitting the clear
plastic. It makes a delicious sound when chilled
plastic gives way, and the lucious sugar aroma
wafts up from the box.
Anticipation runs high, but I hold back. These are
orphaned PEEPS. They were missed at the stores and
each suffers a mild inferiority complex. I must
decant their problems.
I explain that they are loved and appreciated. The
nose offers a delicate bouquet as they understand and
bring their love to bare in my direction. Next I
explain the Landlords rules, and the initial bite
is delicately administered as each PEEP is neutered.
At this point, they don't favor life longer, so biting
off their head is actually a Kevorkian blessing.
Now my knife, formerly used for the package, becomes
a defensive weapon to make sure that no one else gets
my PEEPS!
