Hi! I am 15 years old. I am dating this guy and we are thinking about getting engaged in about 6 or 7 months and I know he wants to and I am pretty sure I want to. However I am worried about what my parents will think. Can you give me advice on how to tell them?

If you truly love the guy and he truly loves you, wait until you are about 18. Getting to know each other better will be an asset to both of you, and then you'll know after a couple more years that you are not making a mistake.

Evel, in your opinion, who was the best president the country has ever had?

I think Harry Truman was a great president. He made a choice that affected all the lives of all people all over the world. And it turned out that Japan is now a wonderful ally of the United States. Many lives have been saved in the near past because of his actions; many friendships and love affairs have blossomed.

I think that all of our presidents have been fine goodwill ambassadors to the rest of the world. In some countries the United States is hated. Our system of government is hated. Even people such as me are dissatisfied with some of the actions of our own government where decent people are involved. Example: The Internal Revenue Service and their actions. But as far as criticism of the president goes, you hear it mostly from people in bars who are not working but enjoying life, from people on golf courses who are not working but playing golf, and from people who sit around and do nothing because they don't have to work — because they are citizens of the United States and they're taken care of.

We're really kind of spoiled in this country. I hope it lasts.

Please note: Tripod, like most citizens of the Spaceship Earth, is in awe of Evel Knievel, his life, and his hard-earned position in American culture. However, neither Tripod nor its parent company, Lycos, Inc., necessarily share, espouse, or agree with the viewpoints expressed by Mr. Knievel, or any other Tripod columnist. (While we're at it, and to be perfectly candid, we are also fairly certain we don't agree with most of the viewpoints expressed by our high school teachers, parents, parole officers, therapists, and career bureaucrats employed by the United Nations.)
