Welcome to the Tripod Insider. This week, we say goodbye to an old friend and hello to a brand-new one, and the Boss Man takes some action on the heat problem. Read all about it after we tell you what's new on Tripod... and what's new FROM Tripod, too!
Content And Services
Sure, lots of people talk about wanting to start their own shop or service, longing to escape the cubicle and the cracking of the whip so they can immerse themselves in the sort of work they've always dreamed of doing but how many have given detailed thought to just what it takes to launch a small or home-based business? Well, fortunately for us, Lisa Shaw, the best-selling author of "The Under 35 Guide to Starting and Running Your Business," has. She wraps up her "Cottage Industry" series this week with three new entries covering finance, marketing, and growing or expanding a new venture. You can check out all six parts of this thought-provoking (and fun!) series in Tripod's Work section.
Not sure if you're ready for all of that? Then drop by and take our interactive poll to see if you're got the entrepreneurial edge and see how you match up with your fellow Tripod members.

Over in Tripod's sporty new Health section, Dr. Bob has a new neighbor. Renowned holistic healer Dr. Jeff Migdow now offers alternative remedies to your health questions every Tuesday and Thursday. This week, Dr. Bob tackles under-the-eye skin patches, polycystic ovary syndrome, and rotten teeth, while Dr. Migdow prescribes affordable self-help cures for insomnia and poor sleep. So if you've been losing sleep because you're so worried about your teeth, drop on by!

It's a week of big names on Web/Tech. In YourLife, get cyber-celeb Douglas Rushkoff's informed opinion on the personal publishing revolution. It's Publish or Perish, according to this media critic and novelist.
In LifeSupport (yeah, you know you need it), we feature our exclusive collection of Rockstar fonts, created by the one and only Chank Diesel. Rockstar is a state of mind, according to Chank, but if anyone has it, he does. Get free fonts, and write like a rocker!
Finally, make sure to see what's new in our Pods: Alt.music, Film Buffs, and Freebies. Poderator Alyssa Boehm has *all* the good gossip in the film world, and she's collecting anecdotes about movies from her Film Buffs Podlings. Pods are updated with brand spanking new Pod newsletters and more each week, so make sure to check out the latest offerings.
Pods, Poderators, Pod Publishers... Come to Web/Tech for all the new slang you can use to impress your friends... ("Man, you haven't joined a Pod yet? They're mad cool.") Won't you be my Pod neighbor?

Director Sarah Jacobson introduces us to filmmakers Tina DiFeliciantonio and Jane Wagner, whose documentary "Girls Like Us" follows four working-class girls in South Philly from ages 14 to 18.
In the Flick Chicks conference, discuss girls' coming-of-age movies, and why they're not like "Sixteen Candles" anymore. (Look out for Tina DiFeliciantonio in the conference, too).
If you haven't been following Sarah's series on women in film, check out the story so far in "Where the Girls Are." Meet Jennie Livingston (who took vogueing national), Tula Asselanis (who made a documentary about Barbie), and Tamra Davis (the only director the Hanson Brothers will work with).
And in The Editor's Room, I get to talk about my mum, my feminism, and where the Women's Room is going. It's a mail call too I want to publish your letters here!
Emma Taylor, Editor

This week the Tripod Insider mourns the imminent loss of workaholic (and gourmet cook) Janet Daly, who works her last day Friday before heading back to her home town of Boston to raise the value of some other lucky Internet company. How valuable has Jan been to Tripod in the year since she joined us? Put it this way: She's being replaced by three people. Let's hope it's enough...
One of those three is Dick Wilde, who climbed aboard this week as production manager. Like several other Tripodians, Dick's an old Williams College grad, but he's been globe-trotting for a while, trying his hand at everything from TV journalism to Web site development to first amendment law. Hmmm... he may be fixin' to go head to head with Ethan for the "most well-rounded Tripodian" title!
Finally, an Insider P.O.B. (pat on the back) to Bo. Perhaps he was tired of reading about the Williamstown heat in the Insider (especially since Fortune magazine recently named us one of the "coolest" companies around), but early Monday the big fella single-handedly installed a half-dozen air conditioning units in strategic places around the office. Sure, it's a makeshift solution. And sure, the units are hanging precariously out our ancient, third-floor factory windows, and we're all taking bets on which one will be the first to fall on a passing pedestrian, but who cares? We really are cool now!
