This week was a significant one in Tripod's history it was Ethan Zuckerman's last. Ethan has been with Tripod, rooting for Tripod, eating, sleeping, and breathing Tripod for the past four years. Yes, that comes to almost 30 Web years. We're completely in awe of his dedication, creative genius, and everlasting, eccentric sense of humor. One of Ethan's coworkers, Nick, sent me this about Ethan:
"While my intent was, in the grand tradition of all Tripod goodbyes, to give Ethan a sound roasting, it's surprisingly difficult to do. I say surprisingly because anybody who knows Ethan knows that he's super-quirky, and you'd expect that one of those quirks would translate into a good, embarrassing story, especially after four years with the company. But somehow, Ethan always manages to keep a handle on things and look professional, even when he's karate-chopping offensive pieces of office furniture, organizing roller-chair races ('Pod races,' he explains) across open areas of floor, or just looking at you with that Cheshire-cat grin."
With that, I thought I'd include a list of Ethan's quirks, so we can all remember the things he's taking with him:
Bear hugs
That whole bare feet thing
His thumping stride, identifiable from miles off
The run-into-you-and-make-you-fall-down school of soccer defense
The run-into-you-and-make-you-fall-down school of basketball defense
His love of the Green Bay Packers, second only to Brucie's
His African drumming and xylophoning
His shockingly accurate bowling
His stunning model of that vaunted, balding-yet-longhaired techie look
The fastest flyswatter-gun in the East
From everyone at Tripod, we wish you the best, Ethan, in all your future adventures.
