This is a millenium time in the audio video world.
Everyone on the street is talking about discs. There are CD-ROMS and Mini-Discs and Recordable CDs and even Phongraph Records are making a comeback.
But the big news is the introduction of CDV. This is the new invention by those big Consumer Electronics comapnies that really is cool and will really change the way you listen to music, watch videos and play video games on your computer--all with the same format.
What makes CDVs so cool is that you can play the new CDV discs and your old audio CDs on the same CDV Players.
The sound is pure digital in the audio mode and the videos avaiable on CDV discs are better looking than Video Discs, Super VHS or anything else out there.
The video sound is all AC3, which is the tech way of saying the best six channel surround sound around.
You will not believe it until you see it er-hear it--well, you know what I mean.
All the biggies are making them including Toshiba (they really are leading the way with CDV), Sony, Panasonic, Phillips, Sharp and Pioneer.
If you think you have the ultimate set-up, stick around and tell us all about it.
Would you believe that the best sound I have ever heard was from a Tube amplifier and a state of the art CDV with relatively small speakers.
Next week I will be back with a report on the myths about audio and video equipment.
