Much like my predecessor, I resisted the obvious social sex role stereotying as a young girl. With a brother one year older, I was painfully aware of how many options males had and how few girls were expected to accept. I followed a different path, a social critic, an outsider in many ways. I have traveled widely, studied sociology, and created a career in social sciences. I am an advocate for women and children, working in the policy arena of family violence issues. I am also a single parent, have raised 3 children who are becoming very autonomous and capable adults ready to continue to challenge the "norms".

I am a pragmatic idealist, not fearful of taking an unpopular stand, looking not for power or glory, but for significant social impact whenever possible. I challenge pod members to view this forum as an opportunity to enhance the awareness of women, their contributions, their complexities, their dreams and their realities. I look forward to hearing from you, or talking with you in Women's Room here at Tripod.
