Luxembourg:

Luxembourg City

It doesn't look too promising when you exit the train station, but La Ville de Luxembourg is one of Europe's most inviting cities. The tiny capital has a mere 75,000 inhabitants, but financial institutions from all over the world have set up camp here, bringing jobs and money and maintaining the city wonderfully. You'll find clean streets, restored historical sights, and pristine public squares edging up to the deep gorge that cuts through the city. Luxembourg City does have two big downers, though: expensive restaurants (finding a meal under 400LF is cause for celebration) and hills so steep that you'll wish you'd emptied half your backpack at home. Still, you should be fine as long as you frequent grocery stores and leave your pack at the hostel.
