Breaking News
Will wonders never cease? This week, despite our post-holiday aches and pains, we launch Trialogue, Tripod's very own conferencing system. It's a space where you can talk with Tripod staff and your fellow Tripod members about everything from women in the workplace to stupid homepage tricks... and once we've tested it to our satisfaction (with your help), we'll be adding new conferences like crazy! Come on in, the water's fine.

Now that Harry Goldstein is a big-shot management type at ACME, he finds himself on the other end of the job search game -- and he doesn't like what he sees. Harry flips through the mound of resumes on his desk and shares his tips for "Avoiding the Circular File" in this month's installment of "The Working Life".
Next, meet Gabrielle Mullem, an intern at a big time new media company in New York City. Gabrielle has previously worked in a variety of fields, but her biggest challenge may have been finding a place to live in NYC on a zero-dollar housing budget. Learn how she pulled it off in the first chapter of her four-part "Internship Adventures in the City."
Dan Reines, despite being able to breathe with his mouth closed, reviews "Cover Letters for Dummies"; be sure to check in with your advice for a young job aspirant in serious need of some professional attire in this week's Dilemma; and then sound off with your thoughts on the hot job skills for the 21st century in this week's Survey.

Would you let your personality foibles become the conversation topic of high school lunch rooms? Could you refer to yourself in the third person without guile? In short, would you be a cast member on"The Real World"? Let us know in this week's survey.

If you don't know your HMO from your PPO, and the only thing you know about choosing a doctor is that George Clooney is cute, Vinnie Antonelli's your man. Dive into part one of Tripod's Health Insurance Primer.
In the Women's Room, Bernadette Noll abandons her first New Year's Resolution (to join the gym), and finds a much cheaper way to sweat:
Elsewhere in Living and Travel, Scott Hamrah reviews the work of D. W. Griffith, "the dysfunctional father figure of American filmmaking"; Doctor Bob gives his advice on choosing the right doctor, and explains what alcohol has to do with hot flashes and flushes; and in the survey, tell us if e-mail is resurrecting, refining, or killing the art of letter writing.
Emma Taylor, EditorThis isn't your father's job... What does a young tech-head in the workplace have to deal with? Endure TriTeca's latest Really Bad But Nonetheless Simply Irresistible Pun, in this week's Perspective -- Generation Techs!
Last week we gave you the Where, What, and Why on Web communities, now we give you the How, at Ware/Howz. Haven't found the list or Palace room that's right for you? We'll point you to the software, so you can go create your own. Check it out.
Also, don't miss the skinny on Plug-Ins; a round-up of design resources; and the last word on Push/Pull.

Now that the holiday season is over, Tripod (and the Insider) is getting back to business as usual. This means, of course, hiring more employees and yet another sports season. Chris Warren, who slaved away putting the Berkeley Guides online for Tripod, was hired full time as a Software Engineer. Chris, by all accounts, is the epitome of a "tech guy": He subsists completely on Saltines and chocolate (he even shaves extra dark chocolate into his cocoa), writes scripts for every task imaginable, and usually works between 1:00 and 10:00... A.M. I've seen him a few times, but only when I get to work early (which is not very often).
Technically, the first employee of the year is actually Matt Quann, our new Assistant Designer. Matt hails from Wisconsin and is known in Insider circles as "Little Matty" Quann. Driving from Milwaukee, his car broke outside of Chicago, which was an omen that he'll make a great Tripod employee, especially given our history with cars. I don't think he's designed a thing yet, but he has already contributed to Tripod on the basketball court.
Yes, the Tripod Team took to the basketball court in some fierce pre-season play and "Little Matty" stepped up to be the much needed fifth man on the court. C.E.Bo was noticeably absent as he foolishly thought that company financing was more important than IM Hoops! Guess who'll be sitting on the bench next game (unless of course he closed the deal)?
