Content And Services
Tripod introduces free guestbooks and answering machines for member homepages, and launches a pop-up window. Find out more about it on the site.
We'd like to tell you about The WebStakes Network. Their prizes are FABULOUS, and it's sooo easy to enter. After you've played, you'll want to run down the street singing its praises. Besides the great free Sweepstakes, you can save money on tech goodies and explore Web sites that actually INTEREST you.
Let's face it. Being interviewed for a job can be a very stressful experience. But sometimes, something clicks between you and the interviewer and you just know you got the job. Has this happened to you? Well, here's your chance to share your most triumphant interview experience with us in the "I Knew I Got the Job When..." Contest sponsored by the Student Center on About Work. And you'll have the chance to win a $250 gift certificate from J. Crew. So, go on and tell us when you knew you got the job.
Are you interested in photo and camera collecting, technology, building a web photo gallery and pictures, lots of pictures? Check out the Photography Pod!
Looking for a place to find out more about your favorite bands, get music-related advice, or find out about new kinds of music that you've never heard before? Want a place for your fan pages, band pages, and music zines; a gathering for composers and musicians, and for people who can't play a note? Look no further - join the Musicology Pod!
Paint your wagon! This week in Living, get do-it-yourself tips for making your car an Art Car, from the artists at San Francisco's ArtCar WestFest. Wanna zebra-stripe your Z-car, tiger-stripe your Cougar, or just stick stuff on that old banger you've had since high school? Then tell us, in the survey: if you had an Art Car, what would it be?
After you're done painting your wagon, talk shop in the Carburetor Junction Pod.
Emma Taylor, Living Editor
Chia Karaoke created the newest rockstar font in the Chank Diesel font collection. "I tried to make the perfect Saturday-morning-cartoon, sugary-cereal, pop font," says Karaoke. Download this sweet sugar-pop for your own homepage, computer, or where ever you need a new font.
We're all slaves to our Homepages. Don't kid yourself -- check out the PageSlave Pod.
Maria Trimarchi, Assistant Editor, Community
In the Women's Room, the girl power debate is raging. Tripod member Skagirl says, "I have never met a more catty, judgemental bunch of people than the girls I know who are into 'girl power' as a feminist movement. And they're all just as slender as the magazines suggest, so where's the power in that?" Do you agree? What does girl power mean to you? Join in the fray, in the Women's Room Conference:
And, is the phrase "women's equality" still an oxymoron? Find out, in the X-Squared Pod.
Emma Taylor, Women's Room Editor
"Just say no" to drugs. We've all heard it before, but just how harmful is marijuana, really? Take a look at "Reefer Reality," this week. We'd also like to introduce Dr. David Simon, medical director of The Chopra Center for Well Being, Tripod's new celebrity holistic doctor. This week he answers your questions on Ayurvedic medicine and carpal tunnel syndrome, while Dr. Bob deals with prostates, self-destruction, and fractures.
Feel the adrenaline rush in the Extreme Sports Pod.
Lori Tuckett, Health Editor
Hundreds of Tripod members have already sent us comments for possible inclusion in the Tripod book. Don't miss out on your chance to see your name in print. This week, the book site features a survey on Health Insurance, a conference topic on Moving In Together, plus -- as always -- the Poll du Jour.
What are you reading now? Want to talk about it? Get together with fellow readers in the BookTalk Pod.

This week in the Daily Scoop: Should nursing babies eat lunch in the bathroom? Are the Stones too mossy to still be rolling? Is no news good news? Check this, Jack: The Daily Scoop is everything you ever needed or wanted out of life -- and then some. Now stop wasting time and get on over there!
Every Friday, one of the Tripod staffers shares a note or anecdote about what it's like to create one of the world's most popular Web sites. This week, Associate Editor Lori Tuckett takes a slightly different tack -- she writes about vacations and the need to get out of here occasionally!
Meet the Gobble-nator... He's travelled here from a time when turkeys ruled the Earth, to kill off all the pilgrims so that the barbaric tradition of Thanksgiving will never have a chance to begin. And, as always, the fun_games is packed with jokes, toys, games, and other innovations to keep you entertained throughout your day.
Even more disk space!! Yes, the rumors are true -- Tripod is increasing disk space for all Premium Members to *12 megabytes*. A Premium Membership now includes a full 12 megs -- 10 megs more than free memberships. And, of course, only Premium Members have their own Personal Chat rooms, E-mail Forwarding addresses, and the exclusive Premium Member image library with the Tripod Colorizer.
It's no big secret that interns are a great and cost effective (which is business speak for cheap) source of labor. At the end of the summer, Tripod loses our small army of student interns and everyone is forced to do their own work, again. Fortunately, this fall a couple of new interns have filled the gaps. Jennifer Benton joined the the production team a few weeks ago to help build Pods, and Kate Krolicki toils in the membership department.
Now that we have interns to do all the work, what do you think the rest of us do with our spare time? We go sledding! It was bound to happen some time -- Williamstown had its first snowfall. It wasn't a pleasant blanket of fluffy snow. No, we got dumped on! Last Friday, the freezing rain turned to snow and the snow turned into many inches. It caused a mild panic around the office; the winter enthusiasts started waxing their skis and boards, and the rest of us cranked up the space heaters. The real test of the winter, though, is in the driving. This recent storm already claimed its first victim by stranding Jeff Vander Clute, (our Director of Internet Technology) -- or, more accurately, his car -- for the last few days.
