Normal service has resumed, and we are working with the hardware vendor to ensure that such a failure does not happen again. Please accept our deepest apologies for any inconvenience caused by the interruption of service.

It may be that we are getting older and wiser, but I have a feeling that we've simply caught a bit of cabin fever due to the dreary weather Williamstown has had lately. Whatever the reason, the Tripod staff has begun to obsess over the stock market. We've all grown accustomed to the buzzing, beeping, and ticking noises emanating from office computers whenever a stock goes up or down -- not to mention the occasional outbursts from excited (or frustrated) investors. At least we think that's what's going on; it may just be that the tech and design boys are playing computer games again.
Soccer is the other activity on the minds of the staff these days -- specifically, the World Cup tournament. On game days, Tripod's third floor office clears out as everyone heads over to the Water Street Grill to cheer for their favorite team. Those of us who stay behind know by the looks on the faces of our co-workers how the games turn out. When Brit Senior Editor Emma Taylor returned to the office and began gravely singing "God Save the Queen" in a trembling voice, we all knew that the England-Argentina game had not gone the way she'd hoped.
