PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTWe're not telling you not to talk to strangers that's your mom's job. But we do want to tell you to be careful! Watch out for renegade e-mails that ask you to visit a bogus Tripod page, and to "log-in" with your member name and password. Once someone has this information, they can easily access your Tripod pages and use them for devious purposes.
These types of scams also involve other companies. Make sure that you're looking at the real thing before submitting any personal (especially credit-card) information over the Internet.
Here's the best way to tell if a "Tripod" e-mail is bogus: Although Tripod occasionally sends you e-mail, we'll never ask you to go to a member page and submit your member name and password. The only place that Tripod asks for your password is at our log-in page, or if you're using a Tripod feature such as Build or Chat. These legitimate areas will never have a URL beginning with http://members.tripod.com. These URLs belong strictly to member pages.
We are pleased to announce the opening of the Museum of Tripod History, a multimedia display of Tripod photos, documents, marketing materials, paraphernalia, and other stuff that tracks the history of our fair company from its humble origins in 1992 to its position in the Lycos Network in 1999. Curators Colleen Harwood and Ethan Zuckerman will continue to add to the exhibit as time permits. The building of this collection has kept the sanity of both curators intact over the past few weeks.
The Museum of Tripod History is located along the back wall of the East Wing (land o' cubicles). The exhibit is laid out chronologically along the length of the wall. The tour of Tripod history begins with the first make-shift Tripod sign, and traces our history with pictures of Tripod holiday parties, Gen-X ad campaign flyers and inserts, Tripod T-shirts and stickers, a picture of Lycos CEO Bob Davis and Tripod's founder, Bo, as well as pictures from our last Tripod party at the local pub.
The museum provides an excellent opportunity for new Tripodians to discover their roots, and for older Tripodians to remember their roots. Much can be learned from our albeit short, but extremely rich, history. As soon as all of the labels are affixed, we'll start inviting visitors from outside of the company to view the exhibit. We'll keep you posted!
