I have an all-girl band. Well, sort of — at least in my mind. It all started the night I got my first accidental drum lesson. Not to toot my own horn, but I think I'm a natural. Now I'm hooked. I tap pencils on the coffee table to the beat of CDs at home. I usually lay out a few cups for the crucial cymbal-crashing sound simulation. It drives my boyfriend Dan crazy. Usually I stop when he says, "Okay, I think that's enough drum practice for tonight, honey." I like to play along with the Beastie Boys. They're not quite a girl band, but for some reason, I always feel like I'm a really good drummer when I play along with them. My cats like it, too. They like to play, "Chase the Drumstick." I have three cats: Jake, Cleo, and Gimlet. If I get famous and tour the world, I'll definitely bring the cats on the road with me. Gimlet loves to travel. The other two are less experienced, but I think they could adapt to life as roadies.

In my imaginings, we will play what I like to call Bitch Rock. I envision a sound that's feminine and beautiful, with a rough edge. Of course, the band needs a name. My favorite suggestion so far is Toxic Shock, which if you know anything about women's health, you'll understand. It's purely feminine, yet kind of crude. Some say it's too crude. I have to give credit to local Jen Rork for that one. Another name suggestion was Radigund. She was the queen of the Amazons. I like that name, too, because she was a strong woman and it makes a cool band name. I owe that one to my friend Caroline. We're still open to suggestions.

Speaking of being famous and touring the world, I often have visions of myself playing a big show. Then I remember that I probably need more than one lesson, and that we haven't even had our first band practice yet. When we do, though, it's going to be really big. We have quite a lineup: Jenny Wienert, the beautiful voice behind the phone at Tripod, is our lead singer. Word has it she is also learning to play bass. I hope that's true because we need a bass player. Gayle O'Brien, aka gobrien, plays a bitchin' guitar. Alexis, the lovely girlfriend of our QA king Chris Johnson, is rumored to have the best piano-playing-twinkle fingers this side of the Green River. Chris is actually a bona fide rock star himself. He plays with a local punk band called, "Chick Magnet." Caroline, Bo's girlfriend, plays a mean tambourine. She's also a budding Doo-wop singer (well, not yet, but she will be). Executive Producer, Maggie B., is going to hook us up with gigs all over Williamstown and NYC. With that crew, I don't see how we wouldn't have the best girl band in the whole world. By the way, a girl band is exactly what Williamstown needs.

When I'm a famous rock star, I'll be sure to remember all the little people. I promise to come back to Tripod to do a celebrity chat. And, I promise to put our world-tour schedule in the Insider so all the Tripodians can come.
