Welcome to another Tripod Insider -- your source for all things Tripod. This week we squeeze another employee into our so-called offices and follow one Tripod bowler's quest to find the pocket. Read all about it after the editors tell you what's new on the site.
Content And Services
It's time to get yourself some Money Smarts! This week, financial smartypants Ken Kurson answers questions from Tripod members ranging from bankruptcy to investing.
Next, Beth Kobliner advises our readers not to get carried away with saving -- she says "money in the bank" is overrated.
Al "Girl Reporter" Hoff has a million and one strategies for thrifty living -- this week she reveals her obsessive love for saving money and getting info with 800 numbers:
Speaking of thrift and savings, is there something you blow money on -- something that you know you could (and perhaps should) do without? Tell us in this week's survey.
But wait -- there's more! Be sure to avoid taking wooden nickels by participating in our Work Smart conference.

Sam Pratt compares two authors' takes on the media overload. Are we choking on Data Smog, or should we be proud members of the Joystick Nation? Take Two Perspectives.
You clamored for BG tag information, and you were heard. Ease the Web-reading experience with a subtle, suitable background on your page. Complete instructions, with samples, in Eye Site.
CNet is keeping a big secret. So big, they sat by tight-lipped while their stock took a dip. Are non-disclosure agreements, those Web stand-bys, worth the effort? The Lemming Reports!
Perfecting Personal Publishing: Part Three (say that five times fast). The wrap-up in a series on getting the e into your zine, in Ware/Howz.
PPP (see above) is already a reality on Tripod. The Page Slave tracks down a few Tripodians who have pushed the limits of the homepage label.
Loyal TriTeca readers will notice that for the next several weeks TriTeca will be running one piece of content for an entire week (Tuesday to Tuesday) instead of running a new article every day. We're actually planning to expand Tripod's and TriTeca's coverage of the personal publishing revolution in some exciting and ambitious ways, starting early this summer. But until then, in order to give ourselves the mental resources to do a great job, we'll be publishing a more streamlined and focused TriTeca. Keep your eyes peeled for new developments, and thanks for reading TriTeca!
PS: Please e-mail me ([email protected]) with your thoughts on TriTeca as you've seen it so far. Which articles have you enjoyed? Hated? What topics would you like us to cover in the future? Thanks in advance for responding; we'll post the results of this informal survey in TriTeca at some point this spring.
Best,
Michelle Chihara, Editor
This week in "Where the Girls Are," Heidi Olmack presents four of the finest ladies in the world of zines. To hell with all diet tips -- they suggest snowboarding, masturbation, or car mechanics instead.
So you knew about zines way back when, before Newsweek and your mother caught on? Take our zine quiz and prove it. Then in the Women's Room Conference, talk about your own favorite girl zines, on or off line.
In the survey, nominate the zines you think should have book contracts.
Then there's Doctor Bob, here to advise you on the morning after pill and hot tub infections. He says he's got first-hand experience on the latter...

This week, the Insider welcomes Josh Field to Tripod and back to the Berkshires, where he grew up. His first day on the job, he showed up early, played for the Tripod soccer team in the afternoon (we lost), and later bowled in our league (he averaged a 102). We're excited about Josh's potential contributions to the company -- so much so that we've even slipped him a side job as advertising producer or some such thing, just so he has some walking-around money.
Speaking of bowling: Janet, haunted by a 42-pin fall from grace last week, reinvented her bowling self over the weekend. On a calm Saturday evening, she and pin-buster Bruce took to the lanes for some lessons. Three hours, buckets of sweat, and some choice profanity later, her journey was over. Using a new ball, a new stride, and (aha!) the correct fingers, Janet has discovered the power within, and a newfound love of the game. But the real test comes on league night: Can she perform in the spotlight?
As Bruce says, "Hey, if we can build Web sites, we can build bowlers."
