    Homepage Building Help

    TripodStats

This section provides help for people using TripodStats.

Q: I want TripodStats to count hits on my homepage!

And we want that, too. Tripod Stats is available to all Tripod members, all you have to do is click here for instructions. Easy as pie!

Q: Why isn't my counter working?

First, when did you put the counter on the page? Has it been there long enough for people to visit it? For TripodStats to work, your page has to be accessed by some visitors. If you think people have come to your page, and your button is still not counting them or their stats, there may be a problem with the html coding you used to link your button to your page. Are you sure you put the exact, entire snippet of code we provided onto your homepage? If you typed it manually, did you make any typos? (Something as trivial as typing "img scr=" instead of "img src=" could throw the whole thing off.) Does the link in your code actually refer to the proper URL? Go to TripodStats and select the member page your counter is supposed to be on. Make sure the code given matches the code that is on your member page. If you saved the graphic to your own machine, you may get the icon, but the icon won't be counting anything! Does viewstat refer to the same counter as TripodStats.gif? Again, if those words aren't exactly the same, you might have a nice picture there, but it ain't counting nothin'.

Q: Hey, I just applied for a TripodStats counter, but it's not doing anything. Why?

Give it a little bit of time. TripodStats begins counting visitors immediately. But, in order for TripodStats to create stats on the hits to your page, it must have some numbers to work with — actual people have to visit your page. So tell your friends to check your Web site out!

Q: My homepage has moved, or I've changed my membername. How do I get TripodStats to start tracking numbers for my new page?

All you have to do to get TripodStats to track your new page is to change the url (the Internet address) for which the page is registered. To do this, go here.

Q: Do you guys have a numeric counter?

Tripod already offers a numeric counter in the homepager, but there's no numeric counterpart to TripodStats's graphical interface, no. But why would you want that when TripodStats's charts lay it all out so... clearly!?

Q: Why are there fewer than 10 people listed under "last 10 visitors"?

The database can only save information for a day or two, otherwise it gets too big. So if you've only got six people listed there, it doesn't mean that only six people have ever seen your site -- only that six have been there in the last few days.

Q: I'm still confused about something!

That'll happen. To get the answers to any questions not addressed here, just e-mail [email protected]. We'll take care of you.
