      About Tripod Membership

      Membership Answers

This section answers general questions about Tripod Membership and outlines the benefits of becoming a Tripod member.

      Q: What is Tripod?

Tripod hosts free homepages for individuals who become Tripod members. In addition to free space on the Web, Tripod members have access to our expansive Homepage Studio.

Q: What are the benefits of Tripod membership?

Get a full listing of Tripod membership benefits here.

Q: What are the benefits of a Lycos Network Passport?

A Lycos Network Passport is available FREE to all Tripod members. A Passport allows you to use your Tripod member name and password to access services on several Lycos Network sites. All it takes is one click. Some of the benefits of a Lycos Network Passport are:

      • A free e-mail account at MailCity: [email protected]
      • My Lycos, your personal portal and customizable start page
      • WhoWhere, for entering and updating your information
      • My Time, your personal calendar

Q: How do I become a member of Tripod?

Becoming a member of Tripod is quick and easy with our Membership Registration form.

Q: Does it cost anything to become a member of Tripod?

Tripod membership is absolutely FREE. All membership information is strictly confidential and will not be sold or passed on. Tripod also offers a Premium Membership for a monthly fee which includes additional services. For more information about Tripod Premium Membership, click here.

Q: Why should I register as a member of Tripod?

Tripod offers a variety of interactive services which require people to be unique and identifiable. Many of these services also utilize information provided by members. Homepage Studio, for example, uses membership information. All membership information is strictly confidential and will not be sold or passed on.

Q: What does Tripod do with my registration information?

All membership information is strictly confidential and will not be given out.

Q: I am a Tripod member, where is my homepage?

Once you're a member, you can create your own homepage using Tripod's Homepage Studio. When your homepage is finished, your URL will be:

      http://members.tripod.com/~your_member_name

(Remember that your_member_name should be replaced by your REAL member name!)

Q: How do I keep my FREE homepage on Tripod?

In order to maintain your FREE homepage building privileges on Tripod, you are required to update your homepage at least once every 30 days.

Q: Do I have to update all of my pages on Tripod to comply with your policy?

Nope. Simply adding a new file, a new link or image, or updating information on an already existing page — you can even change a single word — is enough to fulfill the update-every-30-days requirement.

Q: Do I lose my Tripod membership if I don't update my homepage every month?

No, we wouldn't do that to you! When you fail to update your homepage monthly, you lose your free homepage building privileges only. You will still be able to build a new page on Tripod after your old one has been removed. Pages will be removed only if they have not been updated for 90 days. At this time, there is no way to retrieve a page that has been removed.

Q: How does the reserve feature work?

Members can reserve their pages for up to six months simply by going to the reserve feature. If you venture to this page, and fill out the form, you won't have to touch your page for the next six months.

Q: How does Tripod determine who hasn't updated their page in the past 30 days?

Our resident techno wizzies run a program that searches all member directories and selects member names who haven't updated their pages in the past 30 days. Since the program takes 3-4 days to run, it is possible for a member to have updated their page the day after the program has run, and still end up on our list of people who need to update their homepage. Members who fall into this category will receive an e-mail asking them to update their page.

      Q: Does Tripod provide e-mail?

Yes! Now you can get free e-mail from MailCity — we approve!
