Tripod Help!
If you've created a homepage with Microsoft FrontPage, this section explains how to transfer your
page onto Tripod.
What is FrontPage? FrontPage is a very popular Webpage development tool that Tripod now supports. It allows you to develop your site offline and easily transfer (upload) it to your Tripod member directory. FrontPage allows you to create searches within your site, personal conferences, and has many other useful features. Q: What versions of FrontPage does Tripod support? Tripod currently supports FrontPage 98 on your member site. In order to use FrontPage 97 or FrontPage express you will need to upload your files via ftp, not through FrontPage. Q: How can I learn more on using FrontPage 98 to create my pages?
Microsoft has an excellent FrontPage website at the following URL
http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage/. Q: What are FrontPage server extensions and how do I use them at Tripod? FrontPage server extensions are files and directories that are needed by FrontPage for it to function properly and need to be enabled by the member in order to enjoy all of the features, such as easy updating of a website, that FrontPage provides. In order to enable the FrontPage extensions you need to go to the FrontPage enabler, http://homepager.tripod.com/tools/frontpage This tool will create the necessary files and directories in your member directory. These files can be seen in your directory beginning with _vti. It is essential that you do not delete these directories, as FrontPage will not function properly without them. Q: What do I do if I have deleted some of the directories? If you go to http://homepager.tripod.com/tools/frontpage, click on enable site. You will be prompted for your member name and password. At the bottom of the next page is the option to undo the FrontPage enabler, click this. You can then re-enable the server extensions from the link on the next page. In order for FrontPage components to function properly you will need to drop the tilde ~ from your URL, becoming; http://members.tripod.com/membername Q: I have created my site using FrontPage, how do I get it on the web? To publish your site using FrontPage 98 you need to click on the publish button. You will be prompted for the location to publish to which would be; http://members.tripod.com/membername, for example if your member name is TriMember you would publish to; http://members.tripod.com/TriMember Just fill in the above with your member name, hit enter, then enter your member name and password when prompted and your site will be uploaded to your member directory. When you try to publish your FrontPage Web site you should not be prompted for the ftp server name and directory path. If you are then FrontPage has set ftp publish as the default and you will need to change it to be able to use FrontPage to its fullest capabilities. If you go to the file menu bar on FrontPage choose "Publish FrontPage web". If you are prompted, and you are not always, choose FrontPage as the publish method, not ftp, as your publishing method. You will then need to enter the location to publish to, http://members.tripod.com/membername, your member name and password and you will be on your way. Q: I'm using FrontPage 97 or FrontPage express for my pages, how do I publish them? If using either of the above you would need to upload your page via ftp, not the FrontPage publish method. The address for Tripod's ftp site is ftp.tripod.com
