Tripod Help!
This section contains information about our remote-loading policy.
Q:I tried to access a file and got a message page from Tripod instead. What's going on? In order to provide the best service and the most Web space for all of our members, we have developed an interstitial page that will appear when any file hosted by Tripod is accessed from a non-Tripod page. Tripod will no longer allow the embedding of MIDIs, WAVs, MPEGs, and similar files from such remote sources as e-mail and auction sites. Remote loading is the act of loading files (such as images) from a Tripod page to one hosted by another service. This is a drain on Tripod's resources. It interferes with our ability to maintain the quality service and offer the Web space our members expect. Tripod accounts are for use in the creation of Web pages, not as storage space for images, sounds, zip files, and the like, intended for use on other services. This policy is stated in our Terms of Service. Can I use my Tripod page as a remote resource in any manner? We will continue to permit the remote use of GIFs, due to this file type's small size. This policy is subject to change. Can I still post files for use on my Tripod homepage? Members are welcome to embed files on their pages; in fact, we encourage it! Use of JPEGs, GIFs, MIDIs, and WAVs help to spice up your site and make for a true multimedia experience. This policy only affects those using Tripod pages to host files that are being displayed on another service. Please be aware, however, that embedded .mpg, .mov, and .avi files will no longer function. Why doesn't the link to the file work? Those using an older browser or WebTV unit may experience problems accessing the file you were looking for. For those using older browsers, we recommend updating to a current version; this will ensure that you will be able to enjoy your online sessions to the fullest extent.
