        Tripod Auctions Help

        Add an Auction

Find the answers to all of your questions about putting an auction on your page here.

Q: How do I add auctions to my homepage?

You may put your auction information on your homepage in one of three ways:

        1. Add auctions by editing an existing QuickDesign page or Freeform page. Choose the file that you want to edit. You must choose a file that was created with either the QuickDesign Builders (layout1 and layout2) or the Freeform Editor.

In the QuickDesign builders (layout1 and layout2), choose "Auctions" from any numbered grid cell. Then, use the Auction Builder to choose the information that will be displayed on your page. Click "OK" and your auction will be automatically added to your page!

In the Freeform Editor, choose "Auctions" from the "Building Supplies" pull-down menu. Then use the Auction Builder to choose the information that will be displayed on your page. Click "OK" and the HTML for your auction will be displayed. You can then cut and paste the HTML into the Freeform Editor window.

        2. Create a new page on Tripod using a QuickDesign builder (no HTML is needed!).

First, you will be prompted to enter a filename. Once the QuickDesign builder (layout1) opens, choose "Auctions" from any numbered grid cell. Then use the Auction Builder to choose the information that will be displayed on your page. Click "OK" and your auction will be automatically added to your page!

        3. Use the Auction Builder to generate HTML for use in a new Freeform page or any other Web page that you have created.

The Auction Builder will open on top of a new Freeform file. Within the builder, choose the information that will be displayed on your page. Click "OK" and the HTML for your auction will be displayed. You can then cut and paste the HTML into the new Freeform Editor window or into any other HTML file that you have created with Web page-building software, such as Microsoft's FrontPage 2000, and uploaded to your Tripod member directory.

Q: I just added an auction to my homepage. Why is nothing showing up?

In order for your auction information to be displayed on your homepage, you must make a bid or place a listing in Tripod Auctions. Just head over to the auctions, and get started!

Q: I just added a new listing. Why isn't it showing up on my homepage?

New listings take up to an hour to show up on the Tripod Auctions site. This time lapse occurs to let people change their minds if they need to. Your new listing should show up on your site between an hour and an hour and 15 minutes from when you list it, depending on when the homepage update happens in conjunction with the uploading of your listing on Tripod.

Q: Why is the information on my homepage different from what's in "My Account"?

The information on your homepage is updated every 15 minutes. Just wait it out, and refresh your browser to see your updated auction information.

Q: Why would I want to put my auction information on my homepage?

Putting your auction on your homepage will help increase your traffic. Having dynamic content on your page makes it an interesting place to visit. It can also help you sell the items in your auction by making it easier for potential buyers to find it. Plus, it makes checking your auction a one-step process. Instead of clicking through Tripod Auctions to find what you want, all you have to do is go straight to your homepage.

Q: Why is an auction still on my homepage even though it has already closed?

The closing status of each auction you have been a part of stays on your homepage for 24 hours after it has closed, to let you know how it ended. It will disappear for good after 24 hours.
